…goes by too fast. I start school in one week. Blah.
…goes by too fast. I start school in one week. Blah.
It’s been so long since I’ve posted. I’ve been busy with getting school stuff settled, shopping, working, and trying to relax in between.
I got my draft schedule for Cross last week, and it was missing a course, and it had me enrolled in two classes I totally didn’t sign up for. I finally got that straightened out with a guidance counselor, and just need to talk to the ISSP coordinator when school starts again about my ISSP courses.
I went clothesshopping today; I got a couple new pairs of jeans, and two nice winter/fall shirts. I’m going to go back at some point soon and get more shirts and pants, but I’m still not sure when.
Oh! I also got my new phone. I ordered a Samsung Sync last week, and it showed up here yesterday! It’s one of the nicest phones of its kind that I’ve used. It’s got a nice, clean UI (with -awesome- sound effects), it’s light, small, sounds good on calls, etc. Also, it’s my first 3G phone, so that’s pretty exciting. I love how fast it is compared to my old phone.
Anyway, just thought I’d give you all an update. Hopefully, I’ll keep this blag going well through the school year.
Until next time. :)
For the past few days, I’ve been slowly getting better from that head cold I had last week. I’m finally down to the point where I just have the occasional cough or have to blow my nose. Woot!
I finished my internship at Yale on Thursday last week. I’m kinda bummed about not having to go in, but at least I’ve got a couple weeks to myself before school starts again.
Stop and Shop has been pretty calm this week, knock on wood. We’re starting a buncha stuff this week; new logo, colors, etc. The customer appreciation coupons came out today, and they weren’t yet active in the coupon database. I think that’s straightened out by now…hopefully.
Well, that’s all for now. I can’t think of anything else worth mentioning on here. Just felt like writing a quick update after my short absence. :)
I haven’t written much here ’cause I’ve been really sick. I caught something my sister had earlier this week (terrible head cold), and I’ve been sleeping a lot since yesterday.
I had a great idea for a long blag post, but I kinda lost the idea after last night. :|
I’ll write it here if I can remember what it was about. But until then… -bleh-.
I got my ThinkPad 600e yesterday! It came with the dock, power cord, floppy drive, CD drive, and ethernet adapter. It’s got a 266MHz PII, 128MB RAM, and a 6GB hard drive.
It originally came with Windows 98, but naturally, I wiped it. For the past 26 hours or so (minus the sleep I’ve gotten and work earlier) I’ve tried to get Debian on it, but with almost no luck.
First, I tried installing off a CD. The installer would stop at a certain point and tell me loading packages from the CD failed. I then tried downloading some floppy images, and those worked in booting the thing farther. But at the time, I only had the network driver disk 1 made (as per John’s instructions, psh), so the installation couldn’t find the driver for my Xircom card. I kinda gave up on it for the night after that.
Today, I downloaded the network driver disk 2, and it found the ethernet card without problem, so yay. But, I have another problem. It won’t get an IP at all; it won’t keep a DHCP assignment, or use a static IP given to it. Sooooo I dunno what I’m gonna do with it yet. The CD drive that came with it seems a bit flaky, and doesn’t like to load any disc after a certain point. Oh, well; I’ll keep tinkering with it.
In other news, I’ve been trying to get Cydia on my iPod. I just wanna try out some non-official apps and such, and I have a custom IPSW with Cydia installed, but iTunes just gives me an error 6 every time I try to use it. I’m trying not to pwn it, but I may have to eventually. Oh, well.
Also, one last thing: THIS IPOD SCRATCHES TOO DAMN EASILY. I haven’t abused it or manhandled it or anything, but I do put it in my pocket without a case. I keep the iPod in its own pocket, but I dunno, it just picks up waaaay too many scratches.
That’s it. I’m done. :)
Happy Monday! Yeah. I’m sitting in an office thinking of something to blag about.
The coming week should be pretty cool; Stop and Shop scheduled me for file maintenance all week (minus yesterday, I was working on the front end). And even though I’ve got a lot of mornings to work, it should be more relaxing than working as a cashier all day.
Speaking of yesterday, it’s time for a small rant. Well, more of a protip. Or maybe even just a point establishment. I can’t predict tax calculations on-the-fly, so don’t get mad if I tell you sonething’s $1.79, and it rings up $1.90. Also, don’t demand your money back from me after I’ve already rung the transaction out. That just makes me have to go get my drawer balanced out again. Finally, don’t be a bitch to me, demand the manager and be all sweet and nice when he shows up, then continue to bitch at me when he leaves.
Whew. :)
In other news, I’m getting another machine from that same person off Freecycle that gave me the Armadas (Armadai?). This is an IBM ThinkPad 600e; again, not the newest, but at least it’s something new to tinker with. Still not sure what I’m going to do with it, but I’ll see when it shows up.
I’ve got Windows 2000 on the Armada 1750, and just for lulz, I installed XP on the 1598DMT. Note this is a Pentium 1 at 266 MHz. Sure, it’s slow as hell, but it’s fun watching XP on such an old machine.
I think I beat John (see blogroll) in the length of a single post typed entirely on an iPod touch. Not like we’re in a competition or anything. (I’d totally win though, I’ve definitely got more untold rants than he ever will)
So, that’s it for now. Thanks for reading. :)
Recently, my cat discovered the comfyness of my chair. And now it’s hers. I can’t get her off of it; when I pick her up and put her on the floor, she jumps right back on it.
Oh, well.
Stop and Shop went okay today. We got in more competitor comparison tags (you know, those ones where it’s like, “omfg look at our price compared to [store]’s price WE’RE CHEAPER!”). Also, we’re finally getting the redesigned sale tag stickers to put up in the place of the old ones for the switch on 8/22.
This morning, I was sitting on the floor in the pet food aisle sticking them up (as the ones I was working on were all on the bottom two shelves). This guy comes walks by, and goes, “Comfy seat you got there, huh?”, seemingly sarcastically. I chuckled a bit, but inside was like, “wtf, sorry for trying to be efficiently working. I’ll just bend over and ruin my back/legs each time I have to put one up on the bottom shelf.”
I was constantly being called up to the front end to check people out as it got busier. I wouldn’t have minded, except some select people throughout the time I was ringing were kinda annoying. There was this one lady who said she forgot to bring her reusable bags in from the car. So she loaded the belt, and said “I’ll be right back”, and went out to her car to get the bags. She originally told me to go slow, so I’d still be ringing by the time she got back, but I didn’t want to slow down and mess up the items-per-minute level I’ve been scanning at. She comes back in like a minute later with 5 bags to use.
I love the people who don’t give you their Stop and Shop card right away, then when in the middle of scanning, they go “STOP WAIT WAIT I HAVE MY CARD!” Usually, I say “alrighty” and keep going, but there are some who will keep saying “Wait, hang on, hang on, hang on” or “Stop. Stop. STOP.” Then they proceed to dig through their purse/bag/pocket/wallet to find the card, which takes forever.
Gah. This blog’s turning into something like The Irate Worker. It’s just really hard not to rant out about the shenanigans that go on at that store. :P
FedEx finally showed up! I just got by iPod touch set up with 2.0, and now I’ve got the WordPress app installed. In fact, I’m writing from it now!
This isn’t my first Mobile OS X device; I’ve had an iPhone before.
But yay! :D
I bought an iPod touch on Wednesday morning, and it’s supposed to show up here today. I’m in the living room with the front door open. I was worried they’d try to deliver the iPod while I was at work earlier. No one else is home today, so no one would have been able to sign for it, and I’m too paranoid to leave a shipment prelease authorization. So while I’ve been waiting here for FedEx to show up, I figured I’d write a blag post. :) Read the rest of this entry »
(As you may have read on my “About Me” page, I’m a cashier at Stop and Shop. Just a couple things I wanna rant out:)
If the store is crowded, and I have my express light on, don’t come through my lane with a carriage full to the brim with items. Especially when there are other non-express lanes empty and open.
Also, don’t put your stuff on the belt, and halfway through look up and realize that I’m an express lane. Look at my light before you come through. If I’ve got “Express: 12 Items or less” turned on, then I’m an express lane. Which means you should have 12 items or less. And, while on the subject, don’t ask me if I’m open if I’m just standing there. If my light is on, that means I’m open.
(I have a brilliant idea; supermarkets should replace lane on/off lights with lights that actually say “Open” and “Closed”. Like, actual words.)
Finally, don’t get angry if I don’t take your carriage full of items. I’m express for a reason; to get people out quickly who have small amounts of items. Taking a full grocery load just slows everyone down.
That’s my rant for today. Thanks for reading. :)
I just got a collection of Compaq Armadas from a nice guy on Freecycle. I recently realized I need some things to do for the rest of my summer, and what better than toying around with early-2000s laptops!
Here are the machines and specs:
The e500 didn’t come with a power supply, and the 1750 and 1598DMT have built-in power supplies, and use the mickey-mouse style AC cord (one of which I have).
He also threw in an Acer Extensia 503t. It’s also a Pentium 1, but I dunno its specs beyond that. Its screen’s hinges are completely broken off, and I’m guessing its cables are as well, because no video shows up. I’ll see what I make of that machine.
Once I get a power supply for the e500, I’ll probably run XP on it.
Also, I’m writing from the 1750 right now. :)
